About this plant
Known as Porcupine Grass due to its stiff, upright blades that are horizontally banded with creamy yellow, Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus' adds architectural interest and texture to any landscape. This perennial grass creates a strong vertical accent, making it an excellent choice for borders, mass plantings, or as a focal point in a mixed perennial bed. In late summer to early fall, elegant, silvery-pink plumes emerge above the foliage, gradually fading to a tawny bronze in winter. These plumes provide beautiful movement and sound, especially in a gentle breeze. 'Strictus' is incredibly low-maintenance, offering year-round appeal with minimal effort. It tolerates a range of soil conditions once established and provides excellent winter interest, making it a fantastic addition to the discerning gardener's landscape.
Care & maintenance
Easily grown in average, well-drained soils. Cut back foliage to about 6 inches in late winter or early spring before new growth appears. Divided every few years if clumps become too large or less vigorous. Generally pest and disease free.
